New chapter added to MSM website: WW.II and looted art
http://museum-security.org/ww2/
Numerous reports about the recovery of art looted by the Nazis have been sent to the list these past couple of years. I have tried to achieve some order in this abundance of information. Links have been set up to all related articles starting January 1998. There are also a few pages with related links. I do hope this satisfies the need for order several subscribers expressed.

ENIGMA
" A reader has a client who wishes to identify many pieces of contemporary art that were stolen and then recovered. They are asking assistance in identifying resource material and sites. The task is to verify what they say they have they have, to verify previous ownership, proper transfer of ownership to current owner, and basic values without an handson appraisal. Are there any clearinghouse sites that allow entry of artist and /or title of art that will provide the information requested."

Subject: RE: Stolen meteorites (Jessica Striebel jessica@ecotarium.org)
Hi Ton, It was great to meet you at the security conference in Los Angeles. I kept a low profile, being able to attend just two of the four days. I'd like to reiterate the sentiment I heard expressed so many times about you -- you're doing a terrific job. This e-mail service and website are a service to the people involved in museum security, as well as those of us who are curious about the field.
I read the posting below about Jessica Streibel. Two years ago, I did a story about the booming craze in meteorite auctions. Shortly before the story aired, one of the people I interviewed was arrested in Brazil shortly after the interview for stealing meteorites from a museum. I would recommend that Ms. Streibel check back at who had access to the collection, especially anyone involved in the sale or trade of meteorites. From what I understand, many museums barter and trade parts of their meteorite collections in order to get better pieces. Thus, dealers and collectors can often get access to the collection. I also have several excellent contacts in NYC-- dealers and museum people -- who Ms. Streibel should probably contact.
I don't know if this is any help, or if I should just call Ms. Streibel directly.
Please advise.

Dear Subscribers,
In response to the question about posting stolen meteorites and other geological specimens; I believe this list is here to inform and assist those with a widescope of collections.
With that in mind, here are a couple of web sites of specific interest for those concerned with losses from geological collections.
Hope you find this useful
