Two Rodin sculptures stolen from Russian museum

MOSCOW, Nov 4 (AFP) -
Two bronze scluptures by the famed French artist Auguste Rodin have been stolen from a museum in the southern Russian city of Volvograd, police said Saturday.
"The burglar alarm didn't work," police spokesman Gregory Shashkin explained, adding that no suspects had yet to be arrested several days after the sculptures, valued at two million dollars (2.33 million euros), were snatched.
An original of "la Jalousie" (1899), and Rodin's copy of his own "Baiser" (1899), were donated to the museum in 1945 by a British collector, a museum official said.

Commercial Art Authentification Program

Hello,
My name is David Rudd, and I am developing an online educational concerning the authentification of commercial prints. This includes the identification of forgeries, fakes, reproductions and misrepresentations. Material covers trading cards, advertising posters and signs and commercial art made from 1860 to today. The idea is to provide practical knowledge and methods for interested individuals (collectors, dealers, museums, etc) on how to determine how to identify what is authentic and what is not in this unique area. I have set up a makeshift website which covers text and methods in the program. It would be much appreciated if you took a look at the site your leisure and offered some comments on the text and/or programs. This site is at:
http://www.cycleback.com/prints/start.html
The load time for images is slow. This site has been set up for review purposes, and the final 'product' will be in a more user friendly web page, CD-ROM and traditional book (as the student chooses). If you have any problems with the site, I can provide the CD-ROM or book for your convenience. Other books will be incorporated into the program. The students will receive individual attention (from me), and will be able to focus on areas of interest to them.
Thank you for your time, and I thank you in advance for any comments.
David

Art forgers show their true colours

It may be the sincerest form of flattery, but curators at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art are not impressed by a collection of imitations mimicking their latest display of masterpieces. The aptly named Outrageous Art Gallery in Edinburgh claims to have used a worldwide network of forgers to produce exact copies of works displayed in the Scottish Colourists exhibition.
The official exhibition at the national gallery features the work of the Edinburgh-born artists Samuel Peploe, John Duncan Fergusson, Francis Campbell Cadell and George Leslie Hunter, whose bold, colourful canvasses are much sought after by collectors.
